Norway is a trip that will stun your senses. Everything from the Norwegian cuisine to the striking fjords, it's a beautiful place. It's a mecca for those who love getting outside and exploring something different. The adventure begins in the capital city of Oslo. Here you can explore the colorful waterfront city, learning the history and embracing the culture. From Oslo, you would venture to the Alesund area, which is located on the western coast of Norway. Here you can chose from several unique hotels in the area. The Hotel Union Oye is my favorite as the architecture is exactly what I imagine of when I think of Norway. The final stop is the Hotel Ullensvang, located along a beautiful fjord, and is a perfect base for seeing the region. You can take advantage of the relaxed atmosphere to recharge your batteries before heading home.
This is not a plan that I am selling, but a post to inspire you to explore different vacation options. With that being said, you can take this idea and adjust it to fit your needs, maybe by cutting nights or even destinations. I list the pricing after tax (except on some transport), and the prices are for July, during the peak travel time. The trip is calculated for a family of four, but I do list what a couple should expect at the bottom. So let's get started. Below are a couple maps of the trip and total cost:
When looking at the transportation costs of this plan, you'll be flying into Oslo and out of Bergen. I've set a budget for airfare, $750 per person, for a total of $3,000. As usual, if you have points accumulated, that would be a great way to reduce the cost of this trip.
For transportation costs once on the ground, I recommend walking or taking an Uber/taxi while in the in Oslo, then renting a car when you get ready to head north. The car gives you the freedom of stopping at random sights along the way without having to wait for a ride. Of course driving in another country is always stressful for some (including me), but once you jump into the car and hit the roads, you realize it's just driving.
Itinerary and Activities
Above is an idea of what a possible itinerary would look like for this trip. Everything listed above is included in the price and covers all the activities that I have planned for the trip for four family members. So, again, if you see activities that don’t interest you, you could save money by skipping. Some of the highlights:
- Bygdøy Peninsula: This residential area just outside the city holds 5 national museums including the Viking Ship, the Fram, the Norwegian, the norwegian maritime and kon-tiki museums.
- Taking a once in a lifetime cruise down a majestic fjord
- Kicking back and enjoying being a big kid at the TusenFryd amusement park.
Above is a brief summary of what a couple could anticipate spending for the same vacation. I hope this helps!
Thanks for stopping by and reading through my latest travel plan! If there's a region, or a trip, that you would want me to feature, just let me know!
