If you've ever read any of my travel posts, you might pick up that I love the idea of an older, simpler time. In this Mississippi River Adventure, you'll be traveling back in time. Forget the stresses of your life and enjoy the luxury of cruising down the Mississippi River onboard the American Cruise line's American Harmony Vessel. Lay back on the deck and see the river (certain parts at least) as the early settlers would have when ventures towards the West. The trip starts in the music-rich town of Memphis, TN. Here you'll spend a couple nights experiencing the different music genres, embracing the food and living it up in this lively city. Next, you will board the American Harmony and get situated in your stateroom. As the ship pulls away from the dock, with a 7 night voyage ahead, you can embrace a more relaxed vacation. During the trip, you'll be treated to world class dining, educational shore excursions and unparalleled scenery. Towards the end of the trip, you pull into your final destination, the culturally amazing city of New Orleans. Your final nights of the adventure will be full of dance-inducing music, mouth-watering food and adventurous activities exploring the area.
This is not a plan that I am selling, but a post to inspire you to explore different vacation options. With that being said, you can take this idea and adjust it to fit your needs, maybe by cutting nights or even destinations. I list the pricing after tax (except on some transport), and the prices are for July, during the peak travel time. The trip is calculated for a family of four, but I do list what a couple should expect at the bottom. So let's get started. Below are a couple maps of the trip and total cost:
There are several options for accommodations during your cruise, and the great thing, is that every room on the American Harmony riverboat has a balcony. I’ll cover all options here:
Itinerary and Activities
Above is an idea of what a possible itinerary would look like for this trip. There are a ton of options that are available during the trip. The ones listed above are included, but you can also purchase premium excursions as well, such as a round of golf. These change in price and offerings occasionally.
Dining during the Cruise
Onboard dining is enjoyed in the grand dining room. A sample dinner could include: chicken and andouille sausage as an appetizer, pan-seared beef tenderloin for the entrée and bourbon pecan pie for dessert.
Thanks for stopping by and reading through my latest travel plan! If there's a region, or a trip, that you would want me to feature, just let me know!
