Special. That is what I have to say about Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, it is special. Located within the massive peaks of the Canadian Rockies, the historic hotel rests along the shores of the picturesque blue waters of Lake Louise. A destination that is as remote as it is beautiful, provides a perfect getaway for an adventurous family or a couple seeking romance. The hotel was built as a luxury destination by the Canadian Pacific Railway, is a fantastic option for both summer and winter vacations.
At the Chateau Lake Louise, there are an insane amount of room options. So for this hotel, I wanted to summarize the different option in charts. This helps with comparing what option will work best for you.
The first option for accommodations, are the guest rooms.
The second option for accommodations, are the suites.
The third option for accommodations, are the named rooms.
Enjoying a dinner here, while taking in views of the mountains, will make you feel like you’re in the alps. The rich dark wood creates a warm atmosphere to enjoy classic Swiss, German and Alpine dishes. The restaurant serves dishes like the Aspen Ridge Beef Tenderloin, Classic Vienna Pork schnitzel and mushroom and leek strudel. The restaurant also has a Kase fondue which you can enjoy as an appetizer or an entrée.
Lago Italian Restaurant
At Lago’s you can order some Italian classics like manicotti, chicken parmesan, lasagna and osso bucco.
Up for a special night? Fairview is your spot!!! While it is closed for renovations until April 2019, this elegant dining options offers contemporary Canadian cuisine. The menu includes dishes like cauliflower steak, Alberta venison striploin and Alberta Wild Boar bone-in chop. The restaurant has an extensive wine list that is so impressive that Wine Spectator gave the restaurant its Award of Excellence.
Poppy provides a casual and laid back way to start the day. Here, you will enjoy a breakfast buffet while enjoying picturesque views of the lake and mountains. Kids under 6 eat for free, and kids 6-12 eat for 50% off the regular menu.
A stunning lounge where you can enjoy a favorite cocktail, or find a new one.
Alpine social is a laid back place for some comfort food. You can enjoy a burger, seasonal fish, mushroom ravioli or a plate of nachos. This is a great place to gather, grab a bite and go over the days highlights.
There are so many activities offered at the hotel and surrounding area, that a cold weather trip to Chateau Lake Louise is a fantastic idea.
Downhill skiing: I’ll start with an obvious option. You’re in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, surrounded by enormous mountains, why not go for a day of skiing? From mid-November to early May, there are 139 named runs to choose from, just a 10 minute shuttle ride from the hotel. All ages, and skill levels, are able to enjoy the sport.
Cross-country skiing: You’re able to rent equipment at the hotel, and then traverse the well-maintained ski trails around Lake Louise and the Fairmont’s property. For those who are a little more timid about heights and skiing down the side of a mountain, this would be a great option to introduce them to skiing. Plus, it would be a wonderful way to see the area, maybe even some wildlife. Guided tours are offered.
Snowshoeing: Strap a couple snowshoes on and explore the area. The shoes will keep you above the snow and allow you to trek into the surrounding areas of the resort. A guided tour will take you into the forest to look for wildlife.
Ice Skating: When Lake Louise freezes, put on a pair of skate and go hit the ice. You’ll be able to twirl and zig-zag on the frozen water in front of the resort. This would be an amazing opportunity to take a picture of the resort.
Ice Walking: Put on some ice cleats and take a hike to see frozen waterfalls in between large rock formations. This is a can’t miss and it located only 30 minutes from the resort.
Dogsledding: Ever want to dogsled? Here’s your chance! A musher will lead your authentic Inuit sled pulled by purebred Huskies through the snowy countryside.
You can also go on a sleigh ride or go snowmobiling.
Canoeing: I love canoeing! Although I always seem to end up in a canoe with someone determined not to do any paddling. Yes brother, I am talking about you! You can board your canoe and paddle across the Lake Louse’s emerald waters to the Victoria Glacier.
Horseback Riding: Experience the feel of the Wild West on horseback with nothing but breathtaking scenery for the entire ride. Located on the grounds of Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Brewster Stables offer a variety of horseback rides.
Hiking: Whether you decide on hiking the area on your own or with one of the guides at the resort, the natural wonders you’ll see will be beyond compare.
White water rafting: You can book a rafting trip, several options are available based on skill level, within the hotel. Board a raft with your family and get a surge of adrenaline as you rush through the rapids.
Gondola Ride: This is for all those people who love to get a bird’s eye view of the area, and are not terrified of heights. The Lake Louise Gondola will carry you 1,450 feet up Mount Whitehorn. You’ll have amazing views from the enclosed gondola, as well as from the top looking down.
The Spa at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise in more than specialize in more than 20 treatments and services. The facilities are spectacular and provide guests with a perfect way to start or end the day. Whether you’re in the mood for a facial treatment, massage or a couples massage, this should be on your list.
Helicopter Tour: Board a helicopter and take a truly unique, once in a lifetime tour of the area. Glide between the peaks as you look down at either the snow-covered landscape below or the lush green vegetation.
A variation of the helicopter tour is Heli Yoga. A helicopter whisks you away to a special hatha yoga session. The trip includes a short hike before the hour long session, and then a amazing trip back with views of glaciers and waterfalls.
I hope you enjoyed this hotel highlight! If you do end up going, please let them know that I sent you, and don't forget to subscribe!
