Located on the South Carolina shore, this vacation hotspot has an abundance of restaurant options. It is a mecca for low country cuisine and seafood.
Go for the View:
Old Oyster Factory Restaurant
The Old Oyster factory is located in a quieter area, and sits along an interior water way. While it's not on the ocean, the location is spectacular. The restaurant serves fresh seafood and steak, and is a must visit for that carolina charm. For me, I would get the fried seafood platter, my one overindulgence for the year.
Hudson’s Seafood House On the Docks
Hudson's is in a more populated area, right next to the Bluewater resort and marina. It's right on Skull Creek, a internal waterway, so you'll have some nice views of the water. This is a great option for those looking for classic southern meals. It's heavily seafood (like fish and grits, flounder, scallops) but also has some meatier options (like ground brisket burger, filet mignon, chicken tenders)
Located along an interior waterway, the Sunset grill offers upscale southern dishes. You can eat meals such as 5 Spice Seared Duck Breast and Bacon and Pimento Cheese Risotto while watching the sunset over the water. Take advantage of the outdoor seating.
ELA’s Blue Water Grille
Ela’s provides seafood and steak fare with a harbor view. The upscale menu includes veal osso bucco ravioli, Malbec braised short ribs, pan seared grouper and blackened yellow fin tuna.
A lowcountry backyard
This small, area-favorite restaurant is the place to go for family cooking. Here you'll be treated to popular dishes from the area like fried green tomato BLT and shrimp and grits, but also interesting creations like potato chip meatloaf and shrimp and mushroom cobbler.
One of the best ocean front dining options is Coast, which is located in the Sea Pines Resort. It's a casual restaurant, so something the whole family could enjoy. Coast offers outdoor seating and live music to go with the amazing view of the water. Chose from a lobster roll, fried chicken or beef tournedos to name a few. And of course you have to start with the hush puppies (my oldest would have that as her meal.) Speaking of kids, their menu includes a variety ranging from hot dogs and cheesburgers to grilled salmon or chicken salad wrap. One of the best kids menus I've seen.
Looking to grab a slice? Head to Giuseppi's! They've got 2 locations on the island and serve up some amazing pies. If you have someone in the group not up for pizza, they have plenty of other options. You can have one of the many pasta dishes (even lasagna), a burger, wrap or a salad.
The Smokehouse is located on the south end of Hilton head Island and offers higher-end BBQ. The restaurant is a sports bar so it's comfortable for all. The menu focuses on some of the best BBQ in the area. Try the Smokehouse Plate for 4 different meats (pulled pork, sliced beef brisket smoked chicken and baby back ribs) or the Butt and Bones (ribs and pulled pork).
One Hot Mama's American Grille
A laid back, family friendly and authentic BBQ experience. If you want to get a taste of the south, stop in to One Hot Mamas. Try the Chocolate BBQ Baby Back Ribs
OMBRA Cucina Italiana
This is a great option for Italian food! The amazing atmosphere is great for dates or families. The meals are a little more elevated than a normal Italian restaurant as is the service.
This is an option for the whole family. The 2 hour dinner cruise, which runs $65/adult and $30/child, takes you across the Calibogue Sound. Along the way you'll see historic sights, mansions and maybe even dolphins. The meal is focused on giving you a taste of lowcountry cuisine (such as shrimp and grits, slow roasted chicken, slow smoked beef brisket.)
The Studio offers a more intimate setting. A warm and inviting restaurant, you'll experience a global menu which includes dishes like Local Seafood 'Paella' and Australian Lamb Rack ‘Rogan Josh’.
Michael Anthony's Cucina Italiana
One of the best restaurants in the City, Michael Anthony's serves authentic Italian cuisine in this fine dining establishment. I'm a sucker for homemade pasta, and they have homemade gnocchi, ravioli and bucatini.
Upscale American food in a refined setting. Menu items include Braised Beef Short Ribs, Tomahawk Pork Chops and Roasted Chicken.
Locally sourced ingredients and a upscale lowcountry menu provides a perfect place for a date night. To amp up the romance, take full advantage of the patio and have your meal next to the roaring fireplace.
Alexander’s Restaurant & Wine Bar in Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort
Located in the Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort, Alexander's is a perfect spot for a romantic evening. The restaurant is located along a canal near the ocean, and is light and airy inside. The restaurant prides itself on locally sourced ingredients and serves up dishes like Stuffed flounder and Wiener Schnitzel.
